Homemade Tick Repellent Recipe

For most homeowners, ticks are some of the most troublesome outdoor pests. These pests feed off the blood of many different animals. A tick bite can even carry or transfer serious diseases and bacteria, including Lyme disease.

Although you can find a lot of products specifically designed to repel ticks, most of these insect repellent products are expensive. In fact, some of them are even ineffective.

A simple homemade solution can help you repel ticks and save your hard-earned money.

Homemade Flea and Natural Tick Repellent For Pets

It’s quite easy to come up with a solution for pets. You just need to add 1 cup of normal water to a spray bottle. The next step is to add 2 cups of white vinegar (distilled).

Ticks tend to hate the taste and smell of vinegar. Thus, they are very easily repelled by this ingredient.

You also need to add 2 spoons of almond or vegetable oil. Both these ingredients contain sulfur. It is another excellent tick repellent.

If you want to make a flea repellent, you should mix 1 spoon of citrus oil, lemon juice or peppermint essential oil. They can repel both fleas and ticks, while creating a sweet aroma. This way, you will have a scented natural repellent.

You need to spray the mixture on your pets dry coat. It is important to keep the repellent away from sensitive areas like nose, eyes, genitals and mouth.

When your pet is outdoors for extended periods, you should spray the solution about 2-3 times every day. On the other hand, if your pet is outdoors for just relieving itself, you should spray the solution just once every day.

Tick Spray Repellent For Humans
A basic homemade repellent can be easily made with just a few affordable ingredients in your home. You need to take a spray bottle, and mix 2 cups of clean, distilled white vinegar with 1 cup of water.

It is important to use another ingredient to make sure you don’t smell like vinegar all day. You should add about 20 drops of a sweet bath oil.

Eucalyptus oil can be a good choice. It has a soothing, calm scent that works as an excellent tick repellent.

Once you have properly mixed the solution, you should spray it onto your clothes, hair and skin before going outdoors.

In order to keep the ticks away, you should spray the solution every 4 hours. You also need to examine your hair and skin while returning home to make sure there aren’t any ticks on your body.
